When wooden surfaces are included in the design of interior spaces, we automatically experience the surroundings as calming, warm and cosy, even stress-relieving. Touching wood gives us a strong sense of shelter and proximity to nature. Our natural BARK HOUSE® Premium poplar bark product boasts these qualities in abundance. Beginning with a previously unused by-product of the furniture industry, treatment with a sustainable and regenerative process transforms the wood into a unique premium product for wall cladding.
Poplar trees can grow to heights of up to 30 m to 40 m with a layer of protective bark up to 4 cm thick. On the hottest days of the year, burly workers head off into the forest to harvest the precious wood for our partner BARK HOUSE®. They gently peel the bark off from the trees in one piece, carry it carefully through the forest, and then lay it under heavy weights to straighten it out. Once it has been harvested and dried, the bark can be used as a whole piece, with no need for special backing material.
We offer our BARK HOUSE® Premium poplar bark panels in several sizes, with lengths of up to 3.65 m and various widths up to approx. 1.70 m. Every panel is unique! And the bark panels are just as suited to interior use as they are for use as exterior facades.
If you’re looking for a more economical alternative to our massive bark panels, we also provide so-called “shingles” of poplar bark. With a fixed length of 45.7 cm and random widths of up to 120 cm, they are significantly smaller. Shingles are sold by the layer, at 0.55 sqm per layer.
BARK HOUSE® poplar bark was the first to receive Cradle-to-Cradle Platinum certification.
